All who have confessed and believed that Jesus is Lord are called to walk with Him, to learn from Him, and to face the storms that inevitably come our way. Some storms are deeply personal, and others arise as we walk with the people we love through their struggles and pain.
In my own journey, I've experienced different levels of faith. There have been seasons when my heart felt strong — steady, confident, and unshakable. But there have also been seasons when doubt crept in quietly, when I questioned my faith and even condemned myself for not — believing enough." Those moments often left me weary on the inside. Yet, as I spent time in the Gospels recently, I found fresh peace and reassurance in Peter's encounter with Jesus on the water.
Matthew 14:28-31 (NIV)
"Lord, if it's you, — Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water."
"Come," he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
Peter's story has always amazed me. I relate to him deeply — a man who knew Jesus was Lord and dared to step out of the boat at His word. And Peter really walked on the water! Yet the moment his eyes shifted from the Lord of the wind to the wind itself, fear overtook him. The storm overwhelmed him, and he began to sink. In desperation he cried, "Lord, save me!"
And Jesus did.
Immediately.
He reached out, caught him, and brought him back to safety.
This moment captures so beautifully both the reality of our human frailty and the heart of Jesus to save. Even when our faith falters, His grace does not. When we swing between great faith and little faith, the arms of our Father remain steady—reaching out with compassion, upholding us, and drawing us near.
Oh, what joy and comfort to know He is close… holding us, lifting us, helping us walk on the waters and through the fiercest storms.
