Psalm 1 is called the preamble to the book of Psalms. It captures the entire teachings of the Bible; one’s choice will determine one’s circumstances and the consequences one has to bear. All want to be happy, and Psalm 1 gives us the key to happiness. The word Blessed in Ps 1 is “eshar “means to be happy, to be straight. One can be blessed, happy when one doesn’t walk / stand / sit with the wicked / sinner / mocker. According to Hebrew: Walk means one’s actions or decisions, way means advice: Stand means to accept and agree, way means lifestyle or life: Sit means to settle or marry, seat to dwell
The 3 adjectives used are wicked, sinners and mockers means anyone who does not depend on God and His word.
But this indicates a definite choice that one makes to delight and meditate on the word of God. Delighting means to enjoy, to revel, to be thrilled about the word of God Meditating to process, ponder, keep our mind on, the word of God. When this happens, we experience God’s favour, approval, fruitfulness resulting in prosperity. There is a sense of calmness and assurance in every situation.
The Psalm continues- not so the wicked (the one who doesn’t depend on God) Thus emphasising the fact about the consequences of the wicked which is instability and judgement. They will be permanently separated from God. This Is destruction. Deuteronomy 30:19: "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore, choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live."
