There are times when I sit for personal prayer, read my Bible, attend church, and even participate in fellowship—yet walk away feeling untouched, unmoved, and not spiritually renewed. As I read Matthew 9 today, I was drawn to the story of the woman who reached out to touch Jesus — desperate for healing. And with just one touch, she was healed. Her life was changed forever.
But she wasn't the only one near Jesus that day.
A whole crowd pressed in around Him — people close enough to touch Him, yet completely unchanged.
What made the difference?
Her intentional, expectant, faith-filled reaching out.
As I reflected, I realized that the seasons of genuine transformation in my life were the times I was desperate for the Lord's touch — when I reached out to Him in hunger, not just stood among the crowd. Jesus Himself said,
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.— (Matthew 5:6)
The woman in Matthew 9 sought physical healing after twelve long years of suffering.
We, in Christ, seek something even deeper — transformation into His likeness.
And for that, we must reach out to Him daily, even when our emotions feel flat, even when change seems slow, even when nothing feels different.
Touching Jesus is never passive.
It is an intentional act of trust.
It is a heart that comes with expectation, believing that even the smallest touch can change everything.
So pause and ask yourself today:
Are you reaching out to Jesus in faith, or merely pressing in with the crowd?
