There are moments in life which is inexpressible and can do nothing about it. Perhaps you've found yourself in a situation where motivation is at its lowest, making it challenging to pursue anything or desire anything due to the circumstances enveloping your life. In such stormy situation, you know that praying is vital and seeking God’s comfort is essential, but how many times have you found yourself asking, "What should I pray for, and how do I pray when I can't even pray?" If you have, you're not the first to ponder and experience this.
Apostle Paul addresses a similar predicament in “Romans 8:26 (NLT) - And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.”
The author clearly communicates the need of the spirit to pray but the frustration of the flesh in weakness as “a groaning pain” which is experienced either in a childbirth or in a battlefield. The conviction lies in the understanding that even in such challenging hour, our God, through holy spirit understands and intercedes on our behalf because he sees the intent of the heart and not the weakness of the flesh. It serves as an encouragement to know how God watches over our heart even when words may not be uttered in prayer.
A groaning prayer holds significant power, as it is accompanied by the Holy Spirit's simultaneous intercession. Remember, "trying to pray itself is a prayer." Never cease to pray.
