James 1:2 - "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds."
What a seemingly paradoxical statement—pure joy and trials in the same sentence. No one naturally welcomes hardship. Many believers even assume that after salvation, life should become easier and struggles should fade. But when trials arrive, they hit us at the very core of our faith.
In those moments, the battle is real.
We wrestle in our minds, questioning what we know.
We wrestle in our hearts, struggling with emotions and fears.
We wrestle in our will, finding it hard to obey and to choose the harder right over the easier wrong.
Yet James calls us to a different perspective. He reminds us that trials are not designed to break us, but to build us. They test our faith, and as we cling to the Savior—fixing our eyes on His life and His teachings—perseverance is formed within us. And that perseverance matures us, shaping us to become "complete, not lacking anything."
Every trial is a refining fire.
Our response to it becomes a visible expression of our trust in God.
It becomes evidence that we are allowing the Spirit of God to prune, mold, and transform us into the likeness of Jesus.
What an incredible truth:
There is joy in trials—not because the pain feels good, but because of what God is producing in us through it.
He is forming character, strengthening faith, and drawing us closer to Himself.
