Shameless Audacity

Luke 11:8 (NIV) says, ‘I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity, he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.’ None of us would want to find ourselves in a situation where someone characterizes our actions as ‘shameless audacity.’ However, in this passage, Jesus encourages this very quality when it comes to our prayers.

When we persist in prayer in the face of what appears impossible and refuse to accept denial, being absolutely certain of God’s will, it reflects a deep conviction in our spirits. We know that what we are asking from God aligns with His promises. After all, God does not promise anything He cannot deliver. Perseverance in prayer, coupled with earnestness, irrespective of circumstances and time, is what God is looking for.

The time we spend in persistent prayer is also a time of refinement as we focus solely on the One who can accomplish the impossible. No one else can answer these prayers except Jesus. Our ‘shameless audacity’ reflects our desperation in prayer, which is a sign of our dependency on Him. When He sees this, He will undoubtedly rise to provide us with what we ask for and what we need.
