4 Essential Pre-Requisites For Evangelism

Worshipping and witnessing go hand in hand. And so, the local church must operate under both sound theology and strategy to function effectively. With that here are 4 prerequisites for evangelism:

1. Theology of the church

A lack of identity leads to both purposelessness and waywardness. Prevalent false interpretations of the church being either a religious or a secular club has resulted in the church not being missional or compromising on biblical principles respectively. The church is called to be holy (to worship) and worldly (to be missional; not to be misunderstood for assimilating worldly values).

2. Structure of the church

The church is to organize in such a way that it reflects its theology. Often, the distorted understanding of holiness, worship and fellowship have resulted in the church swaying away from evangelism. Surveying both the demography of the local community and the structure of the church will help in prioritizing activities and constructing a more effective mission strategy.

3. The message of the church

The church must harmonize content and context so to preserve the authenticity of the gospel while delivering the message with relevance. This involves delivering the message unhindered by ancient world dialectics and contextualizing the gospel to optimize communication.

4. Life of the church

Displaying the gospel visually is equally important as delivering it verbally. The integrity of the church and the evangelist remains vital in fortifying the gospel. As proving the reality of an unseen God remains a challenge in our scientific and pluralistic society, establishing the identity of Jesus and living an exemplary life of love, which is the essential being of God, remains a necessity of a missional church.
