Why should God bless us?
“Psalm 67 opens with a declaration often heard within the church—an invocation known as the Aaronic blessing, as pronounced in Numbers 6:23–26. This blessing comprises three distinct phrases:
1. ‘Be gracious to us,’ embodying the image of a stronger person lifting up or bending down to uplift a weaker individual.
2. ‘Bless us,’ infusing us with His presence, resulting in a life of abundance.
3. ‘Make His face shine upon us,’ envisioning our countenance radiating light (Psalm 34:5), akin to how Moses’ face would glow upon encountering God face to face.
However, many individuals halt their understanding at this point, without fully grasping the purpose of this blessing—its underlying reason being:
1. To make His glory and salvation manifest to all inhabitants of the earth (Psalm 67:2).
2. To garner praise and adoration for Him across the globe.
3. To bestow blessings upon the land, yielding abundant harvests.
4. To instill awe and reverence for Him throughout the earth.
Whenever we invoke the LORD’s blessing upon ourselves or others, it is vital to recall that its core objective is to facilitate the salvation of nations and evoke worshipful reverence.”
