A Cry

Psalm 130 is a Song of Ascent, sung by pilgrims as they journey to Jerusalem to present a sacrifice before the Lord. The psalm comprises three distinct sections:

  • 1. A plea for mercy, reflecting a profound awareness of one’s sinfulness in the presence of a holy God. It expresses the anguish of inadequacy before Him, alongside a fervent desire for forgiveness and the ability to serve the Lord.
  • 2. An expression of hope and expectation, rooted in the promises of God’s Word. The psalm conveys an intense longing for God’s presence.
  • 3. An exhortation to place hope and trust in the Lord. This call to trust is reinforced by His enduring love and the assurance of redemption from all transgressions.
