Among the many heart-stirring songs is “Sovereign Over Us” by Michael W. Smith—a powerful declaration of faith, affirming that God is on the throne, that He never forgets, and that He will never forsake the righteous.
Psalm 37:25 – “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”
This truth was reaffirmed as I read Genesis 37–50. God never forsook or forgot Joseph. He was watching over him, protecting him, and ordering his steps. Despite facing attempted murder, slavery, false accusations, imprisonment, loneliness, and abandonment, Joseph remained faithful. He held on to God, trusting in the promise revealed to him in a dream.
Joseph would have never chosen this journey for himself, but through it all, God was working—orchestrating every event to lead him to a place of redemption, healing, and restoration. Joseph later made a profound statement to his brothers:
Genesis 50:20 – “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.”
He learned to forgive because he realized he was blessed to be a blessing—not just for himself, but for the nations.
As we endure trials in this world, let us remember that God is always at work in ways we may or may not see. Let us continue to give Him glory, knowing that all things will ultimately work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
We are blessed to be a blessing.
