Who will roll away the Stone?

On the third day after Jesus’ death and burial, the women went early in the morning to the place where Jesus was entombed, intending to embalm His lifeless body. Along the way, a pressing question plagued them: “Who will roll away the stone?” They were referring to the stone that obstructed the entrance to Jesus’ tomb. Furthermore, other questions arose: the stone bore the Roman seal, so who would break it? Moreover, the tomb was guarded by the elite Roman soldiers. How could these three fragile women confront them?

But let us give glory to God, for they didn’t need to fret over any of these questions. When they arrived at the burial site, what did they discover? The stone had been rolled away, the Roman seal broken, and the guards dismissed. God had orchestrated it all on their behalf. They had done nothing to deserve it; it was an unearned gift from God.

Their purpose underwent a radical transformation. No longer were they required to embalm a deceased God, but now they were empowered to preach about the Living Savior. They needed to cast aside their embalming materials, be equipped with the Holy Spirit, and grasp the Word of God in their hands to become witnesses of the risen Lord. Hallelujah!

Let’s celebrate the risen Jesus. Shouts of joy and victory resound within the dwellings of the righteous of the Lord. The Lord’s mighty deeds are evident; His right hand has been raised high. Therefore, let us rejoice perpetually.
