Capturing the mountain

Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke on that day; for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said” (Joshua 14:12).

Caleb says this when he is 85! Shouldn’t he have retired, given up, and rested at his age? But we find in him a desire, a passion to serve God, to cling to God’s Promises. The mountain represented his physical land inheritance. He had wandered in the desert for 40 years, fought battles for 5 years, and he was not willing to quit yet.

In Joshua 14:11, he declares, “As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in”. Hallelujah, what clarity, resilience, perseverance, and a fighting spirit!

There have been times in my life when I felt weak and tired. I thought I had done enough, but Caleb provokes me to continue, to keep going, to fight for the inheritance of God that is mine — His promises, His assurances, His vision, His purpose, His kingdom, His people! With God, I can conquer mountains that are my inheritance in Christ Jesus.
